Obituary of Leo Nigro
Leo Nigro, age 65, of Asbury, New Jersey passed surrounded by family on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ. Leo was born January 4, 1955 in Newark, NJ. He is predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Noke, and stepfather, Albert Noke.
Leo served as the Vice President of Sales at Stratas Foods in Englewood, NJ for the last 7 years. He was a leader in the food distribution industry where he has worked for various companies, in numerous roles since he was 16 years old. He was highly regarded by his employees and customers as a dedicated and compassionate partner who would do anything the meet their needs.
Leo married the love of his life, Mary, in 1971 and devoted his life to providing for her and his three sons. He lived life to the fullest, offering great conversation, charisma, and selflessness to everyone he encountered. Anyone lucky enough to know him will undoubtedly express nothing but kind words and fond memories. Everyone has a "Leo" story, which shows he left his mark on all that knew him.
Leo was the life of the party, and the first one to offer a cocktail. He was a great drink-maker and anyone that sipped his cocktails was sure to have a great time. He truly set the vibe and made sure that everyone was taken care of. Whether it be watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, boxing events on Soltes Ave., or "Little Christmas" with the family, Leo always made sure that we were all together and in good spirits. He loved spending summer weekends with his family and friends at the Jersey Shore having many laughs and making memories.
His love of Hawaii started in the early 90's with a family trip to Maui, which turned into many trips to the Hawaiian Islands, and ultimately to a second home on the Big Island. It is said that aloha is the experience of being welcomed, loved, and accepted as family instantaneously, and it is no wonder that this is where Leo felt at peace. He opened his Hawaiian home to all to experience the aloha of the islands.
Leo is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary, and his sons Chris of Toms River, NJ, Jason of Kailua-Kona, HI, and Erik and his wife Michelle of Carteret, NJ. He is also survived by eight grandchildren Alexis, Aiden, Max, Olivia, Djuna, Evan, Soleil, and Zori. Leo is predeceased by his brothers Gene and Joseph, and survived by his siblings, Linda, Dorothy, Greg, and Cyndi. He is "Uncle Leo" to 18 nieces and nephews.
All services will be held privately at this time. The family will hold memorial services at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund at https://njprf.org/.
Eulogy For My Love, Leo Nigro
By Mary Nigro, 4/6/2020
It is with great sorrow and a broken heart that I had to say goodbye to my partner, best friend, and the love of my life.
He was my comfort, love, joy, and companion for the last 50 years.
It is a pain so deep that it's indescribable.
Leo was the best husband, father, grandfather, brother, and wonderful man that anyone could meet and have had the good fortune to know him.
Everyone had only good things to say about him.
He was greatly respected by his co-workers and loved by all who knew him.
Rest in peace my Love
