Obituary of Arthur Henry Slinger

Arthur Henry Slinger "Grizz", age 83, Lebanon Township, New Jersey, passed away at his home after a long illness on April 20, 2020. Arthur was born April 15, 1937 in Jersey City, NJ. He was the son of the late Arthur and Jean (Adamski) Slinger.

In 1955, Arthur graduated from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School. He had been selected to play All State Baseball and was scouted and played for the Phillies for one season. Following his baseball career, Arthur joined the National Guard. Soon after he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force (SAC) in the Strategic Air Command Military and Security Police in Homestead, FL. He later trained as an Air Police Canine Command Officer.

In 1958, Arthur became a Judo instructor. In 1959, Arthur joined the Clark Police Department where he served as a police officer and later became a detective. After leaving police department, he became the Chief of Security and Fire Safety at L'Oreal Cosmetics located in Clark, NJ. From 1971-1983, Arthur was a member of the Clark Volunteer Fire Department #1, where he served as Fire Chief. In 1984 he owned a deck building business, Art's Deck Builders. Upon his retirement in 2005 he worked part time as a handyman at the Catholic Community of St. John Neumann Church in Califon, NJ where he was also a parishioner.

In 1984, Arthur married his beloved wife, Lorraine Slinger. He was a devoted husband and proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Arthur was a "jack-of-all-trades". He built his own home in Clark. He had many pastimes, which included woodworking and was a master craftsman and gardener. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and particularly enjoyed playing golf he also had great culinary skills. He played the guitar and harmonica, and had a great love for animals.

Arthur was also a member of the Clark American Legion.

Arthur will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Lorraine Slinger; sons, Arthur S. Slinger, Jeffrey Slinger, James Slinger, Brad Conlin, Mitchell Davis; grandchildren, Cassidy Johnson, Austen Slinger, Reese Slinger, and Charlie Conlin; great-grandchildren, Owen, Julia, William, and Everett; and beloved Uncle Henry Adamski.

Arthur is predeceased by his son, Todd Slinger and first wife, Sandra (Griffith) Slinger.

All services are private at this time and a celebration of life will follow at a later date.
