I worked for John and Lorraine Marran for the two years that my husband and I lived in Clinton, NJ. John was a true gentleman. He was smart, generous, hard-working and a loving family man. Both John and Lorraine were generous and kind to all. Lorraine and family, please except my deepest sympathy.

I met with John many times over the past 19 years and found his technical advice as well as his encouraging words very reassuring. My company and I would not be where we are today if not for the vision and drive that John had to see his dream system get the respect it so richly deserves. Lorraine, Roger and Marran famly, please accept our deepest sympathies.

John's passing is a sad event for all who know him but his life is one to celebrate.
To try to condense almost thirty years of knowing John into just a few words is futile...but here is how I remember John best—
He made everything I said seem important to him.
He could disagree with great conviction yet never loose his sense of humor nor his manners.
His smile and laugh were infectious.
He had a vision that was often well beyond other's ability to see.
He loved his life, his family, and his work.
I'll miss him.

I am saddened to hear of John's passing, though I had heard of his failing health. John was a true gentleman and an innovator and advocate in the home heating industry. I am glad to have known John for over 20 years, and his ready smile, his ability to listen to and dissect problems or issues whenever he saw you, and his business drive, will always be in my memory. I pass along my condolences to Lorrain, Roger and the rest of his family, and also his employees who are now feeling a great loss.

I had the good fortune to know and work with John for many years. He was a very intelligent and good-hearted man who contributed very much to everyone who knew him. He was also a superb engineer who loved to apply his knowledge to solve real world problems. The innovative heating system that he conceived of, designed, and manufactured remains a truly remarkable achievement. John was very generous with his time and knowledge and was a founding father of OMA which was successful because of his tireless efforts. I will miss John very much. I offer my deepest condolences to his wife, Lorraine, his son Roger, and the entire Marran family.

I've known John since the 1980's, when I met his son Roger in college, who remains a good friend to this day. Through the years, I've had the privelege of getting to know many members of John's family and spending time with them in Bernardsville, at Fire Island, and elsewhere. Although my relationship with my own father has been strained, John (though he may not have known it) provided some measure of the paternal presence that I missed out on. I will miss his open, friendly personality, his no-nonsense work ethic, and his optimism.

I have had the honor and privilege of attending family events with John and working closely with him and Roger (my brother-in-law) over the last ten years. Although I know in my heart John is celebrating in heaven with family and friends, words cannot describe the sorrow I feel. John continues to be a powerful role model to me of love, integrity and generosity. I take comfort in knowing John’s love and spirit transcend our physical world and lives through the many hearts and lives he touches. My heart goes out to Lorraine, Roger, Margaret, Ken, Dave and John’s many friends and colleagues.

I've known John since I was a young man in college with his son Roger over 20 years ago. Throughout my long friendship with the Marran family John was always the steadfast rock with a warm smile and ready laugh, always willing to open his home to friends.
He has created a tremendous legacy for his family to carry forward and of which they are rightfully proud.
Even more, John set the bar high for bravery with respect to battling cancer. Through it all he maintained his optimism and can-do attitude. We should all take a page from his play book.
Lorraine, Margaret, Roger, David, Kenny, spouses and grandchildren - you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Being associated with the heating oil industry in one fashion or another for
virtually all of my working career, I can recall when John visited Ed Cooperman, an engineer at Atlas Oil in the late 70's. Atla. serving over 25,000 homes in Gr. Boston, was at that time owned by the Slifka family, now principals at Global Companiess LLC, a major oil supplier. John showed up in shirt, with this somewhat obscure arangement of boiler box and valves on an open flatbed trailer. That was our introduction to what has become one of Oilheat's most resounding success stories over the years. We extend our condolences. He will be missed by all in the industry who were fortunate to make his acquaintance.

My condolences to Lorraine, Roger and the family. John was one of the smartest people I have ever met. It was a pleasure and honor to work for him. He was a true visionary who saw his dream come true. He was way ahead of the pack and after 28 years the industry still hasn't caught up.

John was a warm and openly honest man who could somehow make me feel important. John went out of his way to encourage me, his words of wisdom, genuine concern and respect, were a driving force in my life. I sought to gain his praise and make him proud of me like a father would be proud of a son. As I go to business and do what we do, John will always be my driving force, and always in my thoughts.

John was a very kind and honorable man. It was my honor to know him and count him as my friend.
He represents the true spirit of the American entrepreneur who risked it all to start a new business at a time many thought it was not so wise. They were wrong and he was right what resulted was a truly unique and extremely efficient heating system that continues to serve many tens of thousands of homeowners with warmth and comfort since its invention. As an engineer he excelled and he did his way! Along the way he has had the loving support of a wonderful wife working by his side. It doesn’t get any better then that. My deepest and heartfelt symphonies to his wife Lorraine, his son Roger and the rest of his family.
