Obituary of Terence Patrick Butler
Terence Patrick Butler, age 54, of East Greenwich, RI passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. Terry was born May 26, 1956 in Flemington, NJ. He is the son of the late John William and Helen (Mooney) Butler.
Terry graduated from North Hunterdon High School in 1974. He received his Bachelors Degree in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida and a Masters of Education in Sports Management from East Stroudsburg University.
Terry was the General Manager of the Ryan Center and Boss Ice Arena located at the University of Rhode Island. Global Spectrum manages both venues, and Terry oversaw the staff and daily operations since their opening in 2002. A member of the International Association of Assembly Managers, he currently served on the Arena Committee, after many years of service on the Universities Committee.
Throughout his tenure, he was instrumental in bringing notable performers, shows and events to the The Ryan Center including: Bob Dylan, Bill Cosby, Jay Leno, Carrie Underwood, Boston Pops, Scholar Athlete Games - with Guest Speaker Bill Clinton, League Basketball Championships, The Harlem Globetrotters, to name a few. Involved in facility management for over 20 years, he served in a similar position at the University of South Alabama and the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga.
He was a member of the International Entertainment Buyers Association and the Country Music Association. He also authored a chapter on Facility Management in the text book "Managing Sport Facilities". Terry was a former Council member for Town of Hampton, NJ. He was also and active alumni at North Hunterdon High School, Class of 1974.
Terry touched many lives. His passion, hard work and dedication will be remembered always and he will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother: Helen (Mooney) Butler; his siblings: Rosemary Butler and her son Will Jadick of Hyannis, MA; Jackie Butler and his wife Donna and their children Erin and Bridget of Clinton, NJ; Ed Butler of Glen Gardner, NJ, Brian Butler and his wife Deb of Hampton, NJ Matt Butler of Myrtle Beach, SC; Chris Butler and his wife Terese and their children Patty and Grace of Stewartsville, NJ; Monica Butler and her husband Ed Hornich and their children Matt and Emma Hornich of Hillsborough, NJ . He is also survived by many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, John Butler, and brother, Billy.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, March 3 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ.
There will be a Funeral Mass held on Friday, March 4 11:00 am at St. Ann's RC Church, 30 Main Street, Hampton, NJ. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery on the church grounds following the Mass.
