Obituary of Janice A. GaNun
Janice Anne GaNun, a 21-year resident of Annandale, NJ, passed in peace, surrounded by family and friends, on August 25, 2016 after a nine-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Janice is the daughter of Anne Margaret Behrmann and Wilbur Booth GaNun, Jr., and grew up in Westfield, NJ. Janice is survived by her loving spouse, Peni MacMeekin; siblings Alan GaNun (Cindy), and David GaNun (Moira); cousins Linda Behrmann, James Behrmann (Denise), and Tom Grady; nieces and nephews Janna Dowdell (Chris), Jason GaNun (Jessalynn), Jennifer GaNun (Andy), Kira Botha (Willem) and Alex GaNun; and six great nieces and nephews. Janice is also survived by her loving pets Jake, Parker and Georgia.
Janice attended Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA and graduated with a BA in English Literature. Janice worked in publishing, most recently as a Managing Editor for power engineering technical magazines published by the IEEE. After retiring from full time employment, Janice served as a hospice volunteer for Hunterdon Hospice. Janice then worked part time at the Hunterdon County YMCA as a wellness mentor. Janice’s passion at the “Y” was assisting people new to the gym environment such as people recovering from injuries, or people dealing with disabilities or illness. Janice assisted with the Y’s Wellness for Women program.
Janice was an avid athlete throughout life. Janice played basketball, field hockey, volleyball and softball. Janice was inducted into the Lebanon Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992 in recognition of outstanding contributions to Lebanon Valley College Athletics. Janice was also passionate about hiking and completed over 1600 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Janice and her entire family spend every summer in New Hampshire at her beloved Camp Wulamat.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday August 31 from 5:00 until 8:00pm and again on Thursday September 1, from 2:00 until 4:00pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. A Celebration of Janice's Life will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home following the gathering time.
